The Karnataka Sangha book fair was started in the year 2005 when it was inaugurated by the former Minister of State Vishwanath Reddy and since then it has been happening every year.

The book fairs in Shimoga have books from leading national publications like the National Book Trust, Karnataka Sahitya Academy, Nava Karnataka Publishers, Nrimala Prakashana, Karnataka University, Publication Wings of Kuvempu University, Gulbarga University. The students from Shimoga get motivated through the book fairs and they would meet many publishers under one roof.

Horticulture Expos in Shimoga

Shimoga being a rich city in terms of flowers and fruits makes way for horticulture exhibitions that takes place during the end of every year. The fruits and flowers exhibition is organized by the Department of Horticulture and it mostly takes place at the Mahatma Gandhi Park. The main aim of this fruits and flowers exhibition is to make the people get an awareness about different vegetables, fruits and flowers that can be found in and around the city.

The exhibition takes for three continuous place and the flowers and the fruits are used in a creative way to attract the people who visit the exhibition. The flower replicas of animals can be found installed in the exhibition. The flower model that was made on the theme of Mangalayan project that comes under the Indian Space Research Organization got a wide appreciation.

The exhibition also has a wide variety of ornamental fisheries displayed by the Department of Fishery. The vegetables that are freshly grown in the farms are carved in an intricate manner to display some of the popular political figures, film celebrities, writers and other personalities who are famous in Shimogan society. The entry fee for this expo are meager and is well connected by different modes of transport that makes it easier for the people to reach easily.

Festivals in Shimoga

Shimoga being a city filled with a rich culture and tradition is known for the festivals that are celebrated in a traditional way by the locals. Deepavali, Marihabba, Ganesha and Shivaratri are some of the most celebrated festivals in Shimoga.

During the Ganesha festival, the idols of Lord Ganesha are installed in different places in Shimoga city and the cultural activities are done on a grand scale. The cultural activity that takes place during this festival has the mimicry dance performance and some good music. Marihabba is another most celebrated festival, during which the relatives of a family from the State of Karnataka gather at a place and celebrate the habbe. The Sahayadri Utsava is a ten-day event that takes places with a cultural festival.
